About Switch on the Future

Switch on the Future is working to educate and equip the next generation of disadvantaged communities in the UK, across Africa and in Latin America. In a COVID-19 world, 90% of the world’s student population require digital education but in many areas of a pandemic-free world online connectivity and infrastructure does not exist. Coronavirus has simply exacerbated the problem.

We resolve this issue by developing infrastructure and connectivity programmes for schools on campus and for remote learning.

This problem can exist in your neighbour, your district and across your country. Even in the UK Ofcom estimates between more than one million children have no home access to a laptop, desktop or tablet*. The situation in schools is equally worrying in terms of adequate connectivity and infrastructure to bridge the digital divide. In sub-Saharan Africa less than half of primary and secondary schools have access to electricity, internet or computers***.

In 2015 world leaders adopted the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change over 15 years. In five years that followed some progress has been made – though much more needs to be done. Switch on the Future has identified an urgent need to tackle problems on a project basis to help the next generation.

We take a holistic approach to deliver lasting change to children's lives; achieved by serving their basic human right to education in all settings, and the value of peer connected educational interaction and problem solving in order to participate in society.
