More about the project

Switch on Mathare is an initiative set up proactively by residents of Mathare, Kenya’s second largest slum, Nai Nami aims to embed education within the community in a structured way.

Working with Head Teacher Madam Mary, it has set up the Roots Institute School to provide education in 7 core school subjects, to 276 children in 8 small non-purpose built classrooms in locations across Mathare, but with zero connectivity to deliver education, the vision is to re-home the school into a structured, connected, facility.

Switch on the Future is working in collaboration with Nai Nami to achieve this ambition, to connect the Roots Institute with similar schools in the UK such that take part in global STEM curriculum programmes.
